Diversity-Aware Design of Sustainable Mobility Solutions

Description

As cities and nations worldwide intensify their efforts to combat climate change, the transition to sustainable mobility is becoming ever more urgent. But how can we ensure that the policies driving this shift are not only technically sound and cost-efficient, but also socially fair and inclusive?

This workshop explores a diversity-aware, control-oriented framework designed to support policymakers and stakeholders in developing sustainable mobility strategies that balance environmental effectiveness with social equity. At the heart of the discussion is a modular methodology that incorporates both equality and equity objectives into the policy design process. This approach helps identify and address potential social imbalances that may emerge during resource allocation for the energy transition.

Participants will gain insights into how such a framework can evaluate the trade-offs between impartial policy goals and inclusive practices while ensuring cost minimisation and promoting broad, real-world adoption of sustainable solutions.

This session is especially relevant for students, researchers, and professionals in mobility and policy design, as well as for climate advocates and anyone interested in integrating Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI) or Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) perspectives into their study and work.

The workshop is organised in the context of the EU.FFICIENT project and is led by Mara Tanelli, Full Professor of Automatic Control at Politecnico di Milano and Rector’s Delegate for Diversity and Inclusion.

The event is held in English. Free registration is required.
