Building a Vision for Engagement

Description

Defining a clear vision for external engagement is a critical step for universities and organisations seeking to build meaningful, long-term partnerships. Engagement activities often emerge from diverse initiatives and motivations; without a shared vision, however, their strategic potential risks remaining fragmented. Articulating why and how institutions engage externally helps align internal actors, clarify priorities and strengthen collaboration with partners across sectors.

This workshop focuses on how universities and organisations reflect on the purpose of their external engagement and imagine their future roles within wider innovation and societal ecosystems. Participants explore how engagement enhances institutional missions, how shared values and future aspirations can be translated into a coherent vision, and how this vision can guide strategic decisions and everyday practice.

By combining conceptual frameworks, case studies and facilitated discussions, the session supports participants in crafting an engagement vision that is both aspirational and actionable. Particular attention is given to communicating this vision effectively – internally, to foster alignment and ownership, and externally, to build trust and long-term partnerships with stakeholders.

At the heart of the workshop is the idea that impactful engagement starts with clarity of purpose. A well-defined and well-communicated vision provides a strategic foundation for collaboration, helps institutions position themselves in complex environments, and enables more coordinated and sustainable engagement activities.

The workshop is led by Dr. Balzhan Orazbayeva, Manager Strategic Partnerships at UIIN, and Dr. Sarah Jaber, Director at UIIN, bringing extensive experience in strategic engagement and partnership development.

The event is delivered online in English as part of the EU.FFICIENT training programme.
