The recognition of engagement in academic careers remains limited, despite its proven benefits for teaching quality, student learning, and societal impact. Across Europe, universities and policymakers increasingly call for diversified academic career pathways that value the full spectrum of educators’ contributions. Yet systems of assessment and promotion still tend to prioritise research outputs, leaving engagement and educational innovation undervalued.
The MAP EEC – Mapping Engaged Educator Career Pathways project addresses this gap by supporting universities in designing and implementing transferable strategies to recognise and incentivise engaged educators. It develops practical tools and support structures that help embed engagement as a valued dimension of academic work across higher education institutions. By promoting fair and transparent recognition frameworks, the project contributes to a more inclusive and sustainable academic culture.
The webinar “Enhancing Recognition and Promotion of Engaged Educators” presents key outcomes of the MAP EEC project, including the Engaged Educators Matrix and the Strategic Roadmap for institutional change. It explores how higher education institutions align recognition systems, reward mechanisms and evaluation practices with the diverse roles of educators who connect teaching, innovation and community engagement. Participants engage with approaches that strengthen motivation, foster collaboration, and enhance the educational experience for students.
At its core, the session highlights how recognition of engaged educators transforms both institutions and individuals. By acknowledging and supporting engagement as an integral part of academic excellence, universities cultivate environments that encourage innovation, improve employability, and strengthen their social responsibility.
The webinar takes place online on 16 October 2025, 14:00–15:00 CET, and is delivered in English.
